Did you know that there are 36 million slaves in the world today?

Swift Current and Regina Christian Tae Kwon Do schools are working with Martial Arts For Justice and International Justice Mission to raise awareness and financial support to help free modern-day slaves.

Yesterday saw our 2nd annual Breaking Boards, Breaking Chains event held at the Church of the Open Bible.

Last year, we raised slightly over $4,500 to help end slavery. Yesterday, thanks to amazing students spreading the word and a very generous community, our total reached over $7,200 with more donations coming in.

Over the past few months we have been learning a little bit about slavery and how adults and many children are being unfairly treated and don’t have their own freedom.  International Justice Mission ( www.ijm.ca ) is an organization that investigates, rescues, and rehabilitates victims of oppression.  They also have lawyers and police officers that help prosecute the criminals who have broken the laws and mistreated these slaves. The average cost of a rescue mission is $4,500 with the potential to rescue many individuals at once.

We would like to thank our sponsors for the event: Trailview Builders, Tim Hortons and the Church of the Open Bible. Special mention also goes to Bushido Martial Arts who are dedicated to the pursuit of justice with IJM.
